the eid holidays are almost over and here i am, finally back at home, after spending a week away from Male' and it's stressful life. i've returned a bit earlier, than the scheduled date, for various reasons.. my vacation in Baa Atoll, overall, was really cool. The island life was much more relaxing and peaceful. i've managed to relieve all my stresses and to freshen myself by wandering around freely and enjoying every bit of second i spent there.
i departed in a pretty big dhoani, with nearly a 130 people on board. the speed of the dhoani was quite slow, extending the time of the whole journey. I rested on the upper deck which gave me a good view of the surroundings.. the trip took about nine hours to reach Baa Atoll Kudarikilu, where we dropped off five people. I did step my foot on the island, for the name sake, but I couldnt get hold on a pic of the island as i had no camera at that time.
Baa Atoll Kendhoo
after a thirty minutes sail from Kudarikilu, we reached our final destination... Kendhoo! the first thing i noticed as i stepped onto the ground was a mountain of dried coconuts piled up at the jetty. this gave me the first feeling of "island life". the atmosphere at the island was calm, quiet, peaceful and relaxing.
My friend, Ubey, had me accomodated at a very luxurious house, and treated me very well.. Thanks man! During my stay, i didnt do much, but rest and relax myself. We went for fishing one day and i was quite surprised when i caught a two-and-a-half feet red snapper. catching that heavy lady was a tough job, as i nearly injured my fingers while pulling the line.
The only disappointment I faced in Kendhoo was the difficulty in receiving the signal of Dhiraagu mobile network. Almost 99.9% of the time my phone was "out of range". i had to go a particular corner of the island and stay in knee-level of water, whenever i wanted to make a call. This really pissed me off as it was difficult to be in touch with my girl. sorry baby! :p
One thing i noticed.. the people of Kendhoo are really nice to visitors.. and the kids, i used to ask the little kids on the roads whenever i needed help.. lol.. and everyone from whom i sought help turned out to be very helpful.. From what i observed, the people seemed to be self-sufficient and quite happy about the way their lives are.
to sum up, i had a very relaxing and an awesome time in Kendhoo! I stayed there for four days, before i left to Thulhaadhoo in a fishing vessel that was passing by.
Baa Atoll Thulhaadhoo
Life at Thulhaadhoo was very different. The island was overcrowded and The island had very less trees, is quite large, and is very hot compared to Kendhoo. The area of land reclaimed actually makes the island seem large. The standard of living seemed to be better and the the houses were well-built too. But, i really dint like all these, as i wanted a vacation in an environment that is rather different from Male'. In that aspect, Kendhoo was far much better :p
During eid, I was here. Lots of events took place but i never bothered to watch them.. cos i dint go to have fun, but rather to relax and rest in a peaceful environment. The event of Koadi Kendun created a fight between the two "wards" in the island. I was right there in the middle of the crowd when one took out a knife and ... blah blah blah!
after staying in Thulhaadhoo for three days, i returned Male' after a 9 hour sail, with a new and fresh mind :p
Am looking forward to another long holiday again!
Ciao!
